treasure hunt...

Not dissimilar to that of the world's definition of success, the world of sports (including baseball) clings to the illusion that "success", in modern day terminology... is all about the 'bling'.

Show ME the money...power, possessions, accomplishments, trophies, rings, network, fame, titles, jobs, prestige, houses and cars.

This phrase, made famous by Cuba Gooding Jrs.' memorable line from the hit movie, Jerry Maguire ('96), denotes the shallow and disillusioned concept our world has of success...

Madonna seemingly had her finger on the pulse of the world's cyclical philosophy, pinning the words to the song she made famous many years ago... Living in a material world...

Lyrics from Material Girl
"They can beg and they can plead But they can't see the light, that's right '
Cause the boy with the cold hard cash Is always Mister Right, '
cause we are... Living in a material world and I am a material girl.
You know that we are living in a material world and I am a material girl.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also...      Matthew 6:21

the greatest treasure...

In 2004, the runaway box office hit National Treasure, National Treasure, earned a small national treasure of its own, grossing a little over $173 million. Benjamin Franklin Gates (played by Nicolas Cage) spent his whole life searching for a fortune few dare to believe exists.

This is the legendary Knights Templar Treasure, rumored to be the most awesome bounty in human history, and hidden somewhere in America.

In the end Ben finds the treasure he was searching for, which makes for a great ending to a well written and directed movie.

However, in real life, hundreds of millions of people are continually searching for a treasure that will never be found, because it is a treasure that is ever eluding.  The treasure of money, power, sex, fame, stock market, position and popularity.  The list is virtually never ending, because not a single 'treasure' referenced ultimately satisfies.

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.

I Corinthians 2:9
